The First Basketball Game of the Season

Yesterday, Christian and his team had their first basketball game...ever.  For only having had two practices leading up to the game, they did ok.  As with soccer, it will take the boys a bit of time to gel as a team, and understand the basics of the game.

All of the games this season are going to be played at North Kirkwood Middle School.  The Chargers are playing in a gym that is set up with two courts.  Two courts, four teams on the court, others waiting in the wings for their game, all the accompanying parents, and very little room for spectators makes for a loud, crowded, and chaotic scene.

Before the game, the ref explains a few rules to the teams.

Here we go.  There are ten kids on the Chargers team.  The coaches did a good job of switching them in and out each quarter.  The kindergarteners played 8 four minute periods.  Christian started on the bench, and played every other period, starting with the second.

Christian hasn't yet found his groove yet on the court.  I think he's still in soccer mode, which might be his more natural sport.

But there is something about getting on the basketball court that makes him feel like dancing.  At scrimmage last week, and again during the game, as soon as he took the court he started doing a dance that seemed to be a cross between River Dance and the pee-pee dance.  Pictures don't do it justice.
That's him down there, up in the air, completing the dance down the court.
Ok, back on track.
Connor was there too.  If he isn't eating or climbing something, he's probably under something.
Oh dear, the other team scored!
And that's the game.

Chargers 6....Other team 10.
 Good game boys.
