Tree and Treats

Tonight we got our Christmas tree.  There was some resistance from the 4 foot and under crowd, but if we didn't get the tree home tonight, I'm not sure we'd have a tree up and decorated for Christmas.  So, crankiness and fits aside, we were going to a tree home and in the stand tonight!

For the last several years, around the first weekend in December, we would load up the boys and drive from our home in Alexandria about 35-40 minutes or so to the Cox Farms market in Falls Church.  Pro: they had great trees.  Cons: 35-40 minute drive there, 35-40 minute drive home on the Beltway with a Christmas tree tied to the top of the car.  Entire morning, gone.

Tonight, we loaded up the boys and drove about 3 1/2 minutes up the road to Ted Drewes.  We were there and back in less than an hour, and that included time for a snack.  The only thing we really had to navigate was Connor's foul mood and an abundance of really tall, lovely trees.

 Grumpy Gus.

Connor did start to perk up after a while.  Since we got home, he has reminded me a few times that he wants to bring home a small tree for the sun room.  This, from the kid who spent most of the time on lot telling me he didn't want a tree and wanted to go home.
Christian was having a ball dashing in and out and around the trees.

Darren says, "this is it."
One thing that Cox Farms never had: frozen custard.  As Christian said, "this is the best ice cream ever!"
Now, the tree is sitting in its stand in the living room, waiting for us to find some time this weekend to decorate it.  But first, sleep.

Night all!
